Log information (also called trace information) is generated by the managed servers and records specific events. The log message is sent to the Server Manager, which records it in its log file and sends it to the connected Monitor(s) if log messages are enabled.

Each log message is displayed by the monitor in one line of the log window.

Each log message consists of the following fields:

Field

Description

Severity

The severity of the message. Can be:

D = Display

C = Critical error

E = Error

I = Information

T = Trace

The message on the Monitor screen will be colored according to the severity of the message.

Computer

The short name of the computer on which the server that has generated the message runs.

Date

The date the message was generated. Date and time reflect the global coordinated time of the event, allowing control of servers in multiple time zones.

Time

The time the message was generated. Date and time reflect the global coordinated time of the event, allowing control of servers in multiple time zones.

Server

The name of the server (component) that has generated the message.

Cause

In case of an error condition, the cause that has generated the message. The cause field consists of one or more characters, each specifying a cause. The leftmost character is the most probable cause, other causes follow in descending probability. One message can thus be generated because of a database error, or less probably because of a network error. For a complete description of possible causes, see the FraudOne - Administrator's Guide or the listing in your Monitor filter rule setup.

Message

The actual message. All customer relevant messages contain a message identifier that can be used to look up information about the message. The Server Monitor is able to display that information if the message is double clicked.

To be able to see log information you must:

Have at least one log window open that will display this message (without filters, or with filters that will allow the message to pass). See Creating and using log windows.

Enable logging for the computer sending the message.

To receive log information from one computer, select that computer and do one of the following:

Select Computer > Logging status from the menu.

Click the Logging status button on the toolbar.

Right click on the computer and select Logging status from the popup menu.

If logging is turned on, the Logging status entry will display a check mark and the computer name will show the word '[Log]' after it. '[log err]' is shown if a log connection has been requested, but the computer is not available. The connection will automatically turn on after the computer is back on line.

To turn off logging for one computer, proceed as above.

While logging is enabled, each new log message will be sent to the Server Monitor and displayed there. If you want to see older messages that have been sent before you enabled logging, select the computer you are interested in and do one of the following:

Select Computer > Get log history… from the menu.

Right click on the computer and select Computer > Get log history… from the popup menu.

You can select the size of the log you want to have sent to you. The specified messages will be resent and displayed by the Server Monitor. Getting the log history will automatically turn logging on for the selected item.

See Verifying the log.
