Prerequisites

What you will need to walk through this tutorial is essentially an installed FraudOne system. This can be any FraudOne system, like the one delivered on the FraudOne demo CD, but can also be your installed FraudOne system. If you use your production system, it would be advisable to do so when no other users use it, since stopping servers will definitely have adverse effects on your user productivity. Alternatively, you can refrain from using commands, which affect the status of your system.

You can’t damage your FraudOne system using the Server Monitor. You could stop servers, but those can be restarted the same way.

Best effects are obtained in the learning process, if you work with the Server Monitor from another computer than the one the servers are installed on. You can use the monitor on the server computer, but then we couldn’t name this tutorial ‘Remote Monitoring’. Actually there is no difference between using the monitor to locally, or remotely, control your server.

Here’s a list of things you need and should get before starting exercises:

A working FraudOne server. Refer to the FraudOne - Administrator's Guide on how to install one. It is not important which FraudOne functions are installed, only some FraudOne server processes to control. It doesn’t matter if your system consists only of FraudOne or includes SignCheck.

The FraudOne Server Monitor installed. This document describes how to install it, provided you have:

oA computer having the Java runtime installed. Use the version supplied to power your FraudOne clients. (Please refer to the FraudOne - Administrator's Guide to find out which Java version is currently supported.)

oThe FraudOne Server Monitor files.

A TCP/IP network connection between the computers running the servers and the monitor. If a firewall is located between you and the server you want to monitor, be aware of the fact, that the monitor uses TCP and UDP connectivity on the ports specified in its configuration and the firewall will have to let those packets through. Networking is described in more detail in System description and Configuring the Server Monitor.

The FraudOne - Administrator's Guide. You don’t necessarily need that if you are a FraudOne expert, but it usually helps to have it handy.
