Preferences Overview

Power PDF offers a range of preferences through the item Options in the File Menu. Items with an asterisk (*) are in Power PDF Advanced only. Here is a summary of the groups and choices:

 

Accessibility

Adjust the colors used for document display to make them easier to read  for people with limited vision.

 

Automation*

Set a scan Inbox folder to be monitored for images arriving from a scanner, along with integration with scan manager systems. Do the same for QuickConnect.

Set up a watched folder (with or without sub-folders)  to handle all supported file types or any one of them. All incoming files are converted to PDF (Searchable or Normal) or TIFF (single- or multi-page) and sent to a destination you define.

 

Comment

Restore comment defaults, set font attributes for text boxes and choose behavior for comments (for example, leave note fields blank or insert marked or covered text).

 

Connectors

Enable or disable access to all available connectors, manage* a list of available SharePoint sites and make settings for other connectors.

 

Document

Specify a preference for Advanced Edit mode, an OCR language and other settings for handling image-only PDF pages  and conditions for calling the Remove Document Elements dialog box.

 

Edit object

Specify an image editor for editing embedded pictures.

 

Forms

Specify form preferences.

 

General

Specify a wide range of general preferences, arranged in many subcategories.

 

JavaScript

Enable or disable Javascript in the program.

 

Movie

Define a preferred media player for viewing movies, and set choices for subtitles, dubbed audio, captions and descriptions.  

 

New Document

Make font, margin, page size and orientation choices for all new documents. Specify a PDF format for archiving e-mails and rules for handling attachments.

 

Security

Specify security preferences relating to servers, import or export settings and protect settings files.

 

Signatures

Specify signature preferences: appearance, verification requirements, digital identities, and time stamping.

 

Speech

Make language and other choices for dictating notes through the cloud service Dragon Notes and for reading texts aloud. In the panel Text To Speech, the group Accessibility relates to reading with Jaws, the other controls relate to Nuance RealSpeak.

 

Spell check

Enable on-the-fly spell checking in comment texts, choose an underline color and one or more dictionaries to be used.
