PaperPort is designed to work with all TWAIN-, ISIS-- and WIA-compatible scanners.
Before you can scan images and documents into PaperPort for the first time, you have to follow the steps described below. The order of the operations to be performed can vary depending on the scanner type.
You need
to install the scanner's device driver software according
to the manufacturer's documentation. This enables you to identify
your scanner as the source of your documents and images.
Connect
the scanner to your computer, according to the instructions that came
with your scanner.
The connection type will vary depending upon your type of scanner.
Some scanners connect to a USB port while others might connect to
other ports.
Turn on the scanner.
Depending on the scanner, you might need to turn on the scanner before
you start up your computer.
On the PaperPort desktop, click
Scan Settings on the Desktop
ribbon to switch to the Scan or Get Photo pane. If
no scanner was already selected in PaperPort, the Available Scanners
dialog box appears automatically. It displays the name of the scanner
already connected to your computer. If more than one scanner is connected
to your PC, choose one. Click OK to close the dialog box. Read the
warning message in the Confirm selection dialog box, then close it.
If there was a scanner already selected and displayed on the Scan or Get Photo pane, this will be selected by default.
To select another scanner, click the Select button on the Scan or Get Photo pane.
Notes
The Available Scanners dialog box displays only scanners that belong to a chosen scanner group ( TWAIN , ISIS or WIA).

Tip
If you have any problem with scanning, click Advanced Setup in the Available Scanners dialog box to start the Scanner Setup Wizard. The Wizard is also available from the Start menu.
If you want to start scanning using the scanner buttons directly, you have to assign a PaperPort scan profile to the push button of your scanner.
