Adding passwords to PDF files

This feature is available only in PaperPort Professional.

To add an open password to a PDF file

  1. Select a  PDF file.

  2. Right-click and select PDF Security on the shortcut menu.

    — or —
    On the Item ribbon, select  Apply in the PDF Security group.
     

  3. In the PDF Security dialog box, mark the checkbox Ask for a password before opening the document.

  4. In the text box below, type in the password then click OK.

  5. In the Confirm password dialog box, type in your password again, and click OK.

To add a permissions password to a PDF file

  1. Select a  PDF file.

  2. Right-click, and select PDF Security on the shortcut menu



    — or —

    On the Item ribbon, select  Apply in the PDF Security group.

     

  3. In the PDF Security dialog box, mark the checkbox Use a permissions password to restrict printing and editing of the document and its security settings.

  4. In the text box below, type in the password then click OK.

  5. Select the required restrictions. For more details, see PDF Security dialog box.

To modify the security settings

  1. Select a PDF file in Desktop View.

  2. Right-click, and select PDF Security on the shortcut menu.

  3. Make the required changes in the PDF Security dialog box.

  4. Click OK.

Note

If a PDF file is protected with both open and permissions passwords, you have to enter the permissions password to make security settings modifications or to remove the passwords. If you enter only the open password you cannot make any changes, you can only look at the current settings.
