This message can appear when you try to access a folder that you have added to PaperPort. However, PaperPort is unable to access the folder for one of the following reasons:
The folder has been moved
or renamed, and PaperPort is unable to locate the folder.
In this case, use the Folder
Manager dialog box to remove the folder from PaperPort.
Then, locate the folder that was moved or renamed, and add it again.
The
folder is not recognized by the operating system as an actual folder,
and instead, is considered a virtual folder. Not all
virtual folders can be added to PaperPort as PaperPort folders, even
though you can see the virtual folders in the Browse
for Folder dialog box or in Windows Explorer.
To remedy this situation, use the Folder
Managerdialog box to remove
the virtual folder from PaperPort. You can then open the virtual folder
in Windows Explorer and
drag and drop files from the virtual folder to the PaperPort desktop,
the Folders pane, or directly to the Send To bar.
The
folder is a network folder and you do not presently have network access.
Wait until your network access is restored before opening the network
folder.
The
folder is located on removable media and the media
has been removed from the drive.
To resolve this issue, insert the media before you attempt to open
a folder on it.
Tip
On the Tools ribbon, choose
Folder Manager — or, in the
Folders pane, click the right-mouse button, and then click Folder
Manager to display the PaperPort folders dialog box.
The default PaperPort folder is set to My Documents\My PaperPort Documents when PaperPort is installed to correctly follow modern Windows guidelines regarding where to put user data.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the location of this folder within PaperPort.
Note that you are not required to use the My PaperPort Documents folder to store your data. You can add other local and network folders to PaperPort's Folder pane, and PaperPort will open to the last folder you were in before exiting.
It is also possible to delete all of the sample subfolders from the My PaperPort Documents folder if you are not using them: right-click the folder, and then select Delete. This will reduce the amount of extra folders displayed in your Folders pane.
If you have removed a folder from the Folders pane and no longer intend to use it with PaperPort, you may want to remove any PaperPort information associated with the folder.
Close PaperPort.
Use Windows Explorer to navigate to and then open the shared, network folder identified in the error message.
Make sure your system is set up to display hidden files and folders.
Delete the PPThumbs.ptn, PPThumbs.ptn2, maxdesk.ini, maxdesk.ini2 and PPMetadata.bin files, if they exist.
If the folder is a top-level PaperPort folder, delete the subfolder named SearchVerity if it exists.
