Known issues
PDF Portfolio not supported
PaperPort 14 SE does not support PDF Portfolio, so you cannot open documents that were created with this functionality.
Installation
PaperPort 14 does not support Citrix or Windows Terminal Services (WTS) environments and the installation on Shared Network Drives.
Note: Do not set troubleshooting or compatibility mode for the Paprport.exe.
Limitations with PDF image editing in PDF Viewer SE
Editing an image in PDF files in ImageViewer has some limitations; this has been primarily designed for simple image-only PDF files. More complex PDF files may yield unexpected results. If you do not know the origin of your PDF file and you get unexpected results when editing images embedded in a PDF, it is most likely a complex PDF with image effects already applied.
In PDF Viewer, selecting an area of an image and choosing Edit Image does not work. Instead, you should select the whole image and double-click it to initiate the image editing operation.
PDF files with overlapping objects are not supported for image editing.
When a clipping path is applied to an image (in order to hide portions of the image while displaying), after editing the clipping path is lost and the entire image will be displayed.
For PDF files with certain image transformation matrices, the image editing operation might result in improperly updated or rotated images in the PDF file.
Features not supported in Image View/ImageViewer but supported in PDF Viewer SE
The primary PDF viewer application in PaperPort is PDF Viewer. The following is a list of features supported only in PDF Viewer SE.
Stamps are displayed as Draft in PDF files after changing the file in ImageViewer. This is not prepared to handle other than its standard stamps.
The protection of annotations checkbox is unmarked after saving changes in ImageViewer. The protection of annotations is supported only in PDF Viewer SE. This feature will not be loaded or preserved in ImageViewer.
Use of Annotations on PDF files
If you intend to use annotations on PDF files of any type, we suggest doing so in the new PDF Viewer SE. The annotations in Image View and ImageViewer are primarily to add text or notes to image files. Annotations on images (jpg, bmp, etc.) will become permanently applied to the image when the file is saved or returned to the PaperPort desktop.
XFA form limitations:
Note annotations created in certain other PDF applications may not display note text correctly.
Certain form fields display invisible text until you change focus to a different area in the form.
Emailing the current document from within PDF Viewer fails when the Whole Document option is selected in the displayed E-mail dialog box.
Power PDF
When using Power PDF, image editing is started in a slightly different way than in PDF Viewer. Instead of the "Select Image" tool, use the "Edit Object" tool to select the image. Then the shortcut menu will offer "Edit image".
Editing and saving certain files (DOC, XLS) will relocate the thumbnail on the PaperPort Desktop
Some applications may create temporary files when saved, resulting in the thumbnail being moved by PaperPort to the end of the file listing.
MAX file support and conversion
Kofax recommends that you use PDF instead of the MAX file format. MAX files generated by PaperPort 10 or above are supported in read-only mode, for viewing purposes only. To be able to edit MAX files, you need to convert them to PDF first.
The MAX to PDF converter tool is located in the Start menu next to the PaperPort application, or can be accessed using the cvmaxpdf.exe in the Program Files.
