Scanners connected using an ISIS interface tend to continue scanning even after they have received a signal to stop. For example, if you click Stop while running a job, FORMS cannot stop the scanner until it has scanned a few extra pages. When you are scanning a batch, the scanner continues to scan even after the number of pages you indicated for your batch has been scanned.
In other words, the scanner often has images stored in its internal buffer that FORMS has not yet received. In the worst case, some scanners do not stop until their internal buffer is full.
This behavior, known as ScanAhead, allows scanning at high speeds. The result is that you have less control over the scanner from FORMS.
Note: This is not usually a problem when Kofax’s Adrenaline card is used.

Because of images stored in the scanner’s buffer, it is important that you select the appropriate commands in the Operator control dialog when Scan finds an unidentified form and stops. This is particularly important if you are scanning batches because, as mentioned above, the scanner does not stop when a batch is complete. |
If ScanAhead causes problems for you, try deactivating the function, causing FORMS to request one page at a time. To do this, deselect ScanAhead in the ISIS scanner settings dialog. (Note: This will most likely cause your scanner to lose speed.) Any ScanAhead that continues after you change the setting is caused by the scanner itself.
