Click the Acquire Text Settings
button in the Kofax OCR tab in a Microsoft Office application, or from
the OmniPage toolbar or use the file menu in WordPerfect or in earlier
Microsoft Office versions. Then click the Process tab.
Right-click the Microsoft Word icon in the PaperPort Send To bar and select Send To Options. The Send To Options dialog box appears.
Choose OmniPage in the Convert image to text (OCR) with selection box, then click the Settings button. The Options dialog appears. Click the Process tab.
The Process panel offers the following settings:
Select where you want new pages added to your current document. Choose After last page (default), After current page, Before current page, or Before first page.
Select this when processing pages manually. If selected, all loaded pages will automatically be selected. To run OCR, just click the Perform OCR button once.
Select this to have blank pages omitted from processing. If you enable this, the saving option Create a new file at each blank page will have no effect.
Provide a setting for the sensitivity of the detection: The default is 50, the range is 0 to 100. A high value means the page must be very clean to be declared blank. This setting affects the Skip blank pages setting and also the saving option Create a new file at each blank page.
Select an image enhancement template to preprocess images. Select <None> to unload a template.
Select this to preprocess your image in the Image Enhancement window.
Select Automatic to have OmniPage check orientation and automatically rotate improperly oriented incoming page images by 90, 180 or 270 degrees prior to recognition. All pages are automatically straightened (deskewed) if necessary. Select Right 90 to rotate incoming images by 90 degrees to the right. Select Left 90 to rotate incoming images by 90 degrees to the left. Select 180 to rotate incoming images by 180 degrees. Use the rotation buttons in the Image toolbar to rotate individual images after import.
Select this to have spots removed from images automatically: choose from Normal and Halftone despeckling.

The Despeckle tool lets you remove spots from an image manually in the
Image Enhancement window if
automatic despeckling was not chosen.
Select this to have all pages straightened automatically, if necessary.
Allow the program to detect margins and remove oversize blank areas at page edges.
Transform punch holes to the surrounding background color.
Select this to keep original resolutions for grayscale and color images entering the program. Do this if you need high quality image export, for page image saving and for images embedded in recognized pages. Deselect this to have grayscale and color images reduced to about 300 dpi.
Allow despeckling and noise removal to work on page margins. This is useful to remove black shadows that can occur during scanning.
Select Retain text and background color to have colored texts and backgrounds detected and displayed in the Text Editor and available for export. Deselect this if you want color pictures in the document but do not want colored text and backgrounds. The Text Editor allows you to change the color of texts and backgrounds. This option is grayed if Optimize the OCR process for Speed is turned on in the OCR panel of the Options dialog box. Color is dropped if you send your document to Kindle. It is available when saving to the ePub file type.
Select this if you want to scan two facing pages of an open book in one step and then to recognize and store them as two separate pages (as if they had come from two separate scannings).
Select this to have hyperlinks detected, displayed as functioning links in the Text Editor and available for export.
Select this to retain inverted text (white or pale letters on a black or dark background). Deselect this to have inverted text transformed to normal text. This option is grayed if Optimize the OCR process for Speed is turned on in the OCR panel of the Options dialog box.
Select this to have headers and footers detected and available for export. Deselect this to have headers and footers treated as ordinary text.
Select this if the recognized text of a PDF file is not satisfactory. For this option to take effect, reload the PDF file with this option selected.
PDF tags contain formatting information that OmniPage can use. The option has an effect only on tagged PDF files. If the automatic layout analysis (paragraphs, tables, graphics) during auto-zoning is not satisfactory, change this setting and reload the PDF file.
Select this to override your font matching instructions, whenever possible, when opening PDF files. OmniPage can read the font list in PDF files and will search these fonts on your system and use them for the converted document.
