Settings window - General tab

Use the General tab to define the Image Settings, the Result Settings and the General OCR Settings.

The following Image Settings group has the following settings available:

Image Path

This setting enables you select the image path. Click to open the Browse For Folder window.

Image File Extension

This setting enables you to specify the default image file extension. By default, tif is used as the image file extension.

Maximum Number of Files per Folder

This setting enables you to limit the number of files that receive OCR in a folder. By default the maximum number of files per folder is zero. In this case OCR is executed on all files.

Search for Images Recursive

This setting ensures that any sub folders are searched for images. If this setting is enabled, images are found that are not only in the current directory but also in all subdirectories.

The following Result Settings settings are available:

Overwrite Existing Results

Select this setting to overwrite existing OCR results.

Save XDoc Files

Select this setting to save the OCR results in the XDoc format.

Save Text Files

Select this setting to save the OCR results in the text format.

Text Encoding

If OCR results are saved as text files, ANSI is used as Text Encoding by default. You can change the text encoding to any of the following formats:

  • ANSI

  • Unicode

  • Unicode Big Endian

  • UTF-8

The General OCR Settings group has the following settings available:

OCR on all Pages

By default OCR is executed on all pages.

OCR on Specific Pages

This setting enables you to limit which pages have OCR performed. If this setting is selected, the OCR on all pages setting is disabled.

  • From the beginning - Limits the number of pages from the beginning of the document that should be processed.

  • From the end - Limits the number of pages from the end of the document that should be processed.

Detect Orientation

Select this setting to detect and change the orientation of the pages automatically while executing OCR.

The Resource Settings group has the following settings available:

Number of CPUs the OCR server may use

The number of CPUs in the computer controls how many OCR processes can be started by the OCR Server. The minimum value is <1>. The maximum value is the actual number of CPUs of the server hardware.

You can restrict the number of CPUs used for OCR Server by reducing the value. Doing so can be important if the server hardware also runs other applications and services in conjunction with the OCR Server.
