Using fields to extract information from documents: Overview

The program can extract fields that are specified in document specifications and layouts.

How these fields are specified depends on whether their position on documents is fixed (structured) or unknown (semi-structured):

Specified fields are automatically labelled with a Closedlocation type.

Location types for semi-structured and structured classifiers can be seen in the Location column, in the fields pane of the document specification editor and are described as:

Not defined: No area or semi-structured method for locating the field has been defined.

Fixed: The field is found in a fixed area on the page layout; it is structured.

Floating: The field is located by one or more semi-structured methods such as a keyword identifier.

Fixed, Floating: The field is located first by a fixed area, and then, if necessary, by one or more semi-structured methods.

The program can extract information from a document using a variety of field types.
