Runtime systems: Overview

Multiple runtime systems are not currently supported in DOCUMENTS.

DOCUMENTS makes it possible to run individual production environments (runtime systems) that are completely separate from each other. For example, service bureaus can run separate systems for different clients.

The main advantage of runtime systems is that they separate the configuration environment from the operation environment. There is no risk that configuration changes accidentally reach operation. Users can work with and save data in the configuration environment (the Administration module) at any time.

Before production tasks are run in the Production module, the solutions that they belong to must be deployed to a runtime system. After the information is saved in the runtime system, it is ready to be used in the Production module.

Note: This does not apply to the Invoice Manager or Invoice Optimize module. Configuration data specified in these modules is saved directly in the Production database.

For large installations, another advantage is that system and solution modifications are tested without jeopardizing normal production. Testing solutions in a separate environment is often necessary before deploying them to the production system. After the changes have been fine-tuned and tested in the test system, they can be deployed to the live production system. See an example of runtime system settings for a test and an active production system.
