To define a recognition field:
If the unique preprinted string has a box around it, double-click it. If not, draw a frame around it.
Warning: If there are support lines, do not use them. Instead, draw the frame by hand, but stay well within the lines. This is because recognition fields do not use support lines as other field types do. Support lines can even decrease interpretation of recognition fields.
Erase the string by choosing Edit ð Field ð Erase.
Select Edit ð Field ð Define to open the Field dialog. The Standard tab is on top. The items that appear on the Standard tab change based on which field type you choose.
On the Standard tab, select Recognition as the field type.
In the Match value box, type the actual unique characters that appear in the form’s recognition field. FORMS ignores dashes, commas, and dots in recognition fields, so do not specify these. You can also use a table for match values) for forms that are identical except for the recognition number.
If the match string contains more than one or two non-numeric characters, we recommend that you designate them as insignificant with an asterisk, because they are more difficult to interpret than digits. If there are only a few, they can be included in the match string.
Examples:
489*** for a form labeled "489#A2" if the "489" is unique to the form
489*A2 or 489#A2 if the match value for the form is not unique without the last 2-3 characters
Click OK.
