Recognition field

A recognition field contains a preprinted string of characters that identify the form as compared to other forms. FORMS uses recognition fields to identify forms when the forms are too similar to be identified by their adjustment fields alone.

Recognition fields are not required on form definitions, as adjustment fields are, unless the form cannot be distinguished from other forms by its adjustment fields alone. However, if a form number is preprinted on the form, do create a field definition for it.

It is important that recognition characters be clear and easily read on the processed forms, because FORMS stops scanning when a recognition field cannot be interpreted (unless Accept unidentified forms is selected as an option in the Scan job description).
