Action: Show an error message

When you choose this action for a validation rule, an error message is attached to a specific field. The error message is then displayed when you use Verify to process the form. You must also select a status for the field— either Confirm or Validation error. Otherwise, the field might not be displayed in Verify.

  1. Specify a name for the action. This is just a label to help you remember what the action does.

  2. Specify which field is to get the error message.

  3. Specify which field status is to trigger the error message. (Warning: If you select Validation error, avoid infinite loops.)

The status you select here must then also be selected in the Verify job description.

  4. Create a message for the Verify operator. Either type an expression yourself, or click Expression, which opens a dialog that can help you write the expression. The result of the expression must be a string or a numerical value. (If you want to write a simple text message, enclose it in quotation marks.)

  5. Click OK.
