Extra interpretation engines that you can use with FORMS:
Currently ReadSoft offers the RecoStar Professional engine from Open Text.
You can use A2iA’s CheckReader or FieldReader. See A2iA’s website for more information about their products.
You can use other interpretation engines, if the supplier can provide an interface DLL for FORMS. However, Optimized voting is only available with Open Text and A2iA engines.
Depending on the material to be interpreted, using a specific add-on interpretation engine – either alone or in combination with FORMS’ internal engine – may provide better recognition.
The benefit of using an external engine is not only the actual performance of the external engine but above all the combination of the internal FORMS engine and the external engine. This combination is achieved by the voting mechanism, which ensures that the best characteristics of every installed interpreter are used for a superior result.
The greatest advantages to using an external interpretation engine are achieved when it is applied to:
Fields that must have the best possible interpretation.
Forms of poor quality, for example messy handwritten material that is difficult to read.
Alphabetical fields – although numerical fields may also benefit.
In some cases, the external engine may also manage national characters that are not supported by the internal engine.
At present a maximum of two interpretation engines can be applied to any field: FORMS’ internal engine and one external one.
The disadvantage to using two interpretation engines on a field is that the interpretation speed can decrease somewhat.
