Stage two of preparing for production: Creating a new standard transaction description

Transaction descriptions specify the content, format and layout of transactions. Using the Manager, you must create one standard transaction description for each form definition.

If you will be using SPSS statistics analysis program to examine data from the transaction, read more about this before creating your transaction description.

  1. Click the Form definitions object bar.

  2. Click the plus sign (+) to expand the form definition for which you want to create a standard transaction description.

  3. Double-click the Transaction description icon. The Transaction description dialog opens.

Double-clicking the Transaction description icon also opens the form definition, so you may be prompted to save changes to another form definition, if one was open.

  4. Click Default to create a standard transaction description. In the drop-down list there are four default layouts to choose from.

  5. The transaction fields can now be edited freely in the Edit line. How?

  6. If your form definition includes a form complement, you must add #Complement from Available fields to the transaction description if you want the resulting data to appear in the output file.

  7. Click Options and specify which type of field separation you want.

  8. Click OK.

  9. Resave the form definition by clicking the Save button (which looks like a diskette) on the toolbar. This automatically saves the transaction description to the form definition.
