Sometimes FORMS cannot interpret individual characters on the filled-in form. Fields containing such characters, as well as fields containing a character for which you type a comma (,) when you fast-verify unknown characters, are Interpretation errors. Characters you selected as incorrect during mass verification are included, as well, if Unknown characters is not selected.
Characters with Interpretation error status are represented by a selected asterisk (*) in the value string (that is, your cursor is automatically placed on the asterisk), and you must replace the asterisk with the data you see in the field. As you type the data, the cursor jumps from one asterisk to the next if there is more than one asterisk in the dialog.

Troubleshooting: Verify displays interpretation errors in the same way as interpreted asterisks
