Collecting audit trail data

Audit trail messages track certain actions on XBOUND objects. These messages are stored in the logging database and are displayed in the Log Explorer.

Use this procedure to activate audit messages:

  1. Using the XBOUND Management Center, open a console containing the Data Manager.

  2. Under Audit, click the link that says Click here for reading or changing the settings. The Audit Settings dialog is displayed.

  3. Select Activate audit trail on server. (This option ensures that audit messages are sent to the logging database.)

  4. Specify the URL of the logging server, including the protocol and port number. Example: tcp://testserver:4445 (the protocol is TCP and the port number is 4445).

This setting overrides the common application setting that is specified in the Common Configuration Manager under Service Logging.

Tip: You can specify multiple servers using a pipe symbol ( | ) as separator. If the first server fails, the next one is used. Example: tcp://testserver:4445|tcp://logserver:4445

  5. Optional: Select Include user log-ins and log-outs.

Note: Because the Windows service XBOUND Activities is also an XBOUND user, these messages can be very numerous. Therefore this option is not selected by default.

  6. Click Connect.

  7. Optional: Synchronize audit messages to a separate database for archiving.
