File Menu

The File Menu in Power PDF offers the following items:

Save

Save changes to the currently open PDF file.

Save As

Save changes to the currently open PDF file under a new name and possibly location.

The previously current document is closed, and any changes made since the last save do not enter that document; only the renamed one contains them. To retain changes in both documents, save the source document explicitly before using 'Save As'.

Save Revision

Save the current PDF document and apply a label to it, so you can return to the document in this state, using Open Revision. This feature can be disabled by an administrator at installation time, so it may not appear. To distribute a 'clean' document, with all previous revisions removed, save it to a new name.

Revert to last Save

Return the current PDF to its state when it was last saved. This can be useful if some editing was not successful.

Open

Use this to open one or more files from your local machine or any remote location your computer can reach, including Cloud storage sites and (in Power PDF Advanced) Document Management Systems. PDF and XPS files are opened directly, other files are converted to PDF during loading, which may take some time. When multiple files are loaded, each appears in a separate program window. Choose Recent to have the File menu display area list recent documents and recent places. Click a file to open it directly. Choose a location to have the Open dialog box display the chosen folder. Click the Pin to list tool to place selected files or locations in a separate group at the top of the listing.

Previous file

Open the previous PDF or XPS file in the folder containing the current document. The current document is closed; if it has unsaved changes, you are invited to save them.

Next file

Open the next PDF or XPS file in the folder containing the current document. The current document is closed; if it has unsaved changes, you are invited to save them. These commands are useful if you must view or modify a series of documents quickly.

Open Revision

Open any previous saved version or revision of the current document; a list of saving states is shown by the time of saving, a saved revision additionally shows the label previously attached with the command Save Revision. The chain of past states is broken if the document is renamed; so to send a clean copy of a document with no interim states, save it to a new name. Revision storage can be disabled by an administrator at installation time, so saving and opening revisions may not appear at all.

Close

This closes the current document; if it has unsaved changes, you are invited to save them.

Info

This displays a list of information and properties for the current document. Click Edit properties to modify these properties.

Recent

This uses the File menu display area to list recent documents and recent places. Click a file to open it directly. Choose a location to have the Open dialog box display the chosen folder. Click the Pin to list tool to place selected files or locations in a separate group at the top of the listing. These files or locations remain visible until they are unpinned. Unpinned items may disappear as more recent items are added. Use File > Options > General > Recent Files to define the maximum number of files to display

New

This allows you to create a new PDF file from scanner, from Clipboard or from one or more files with or without Create Assistant as chosen in a drop-down list. It is also possible to create a blank PDF or create a Portfolio containing a number of files.

Advanced Editor

Use this to move your current document to Advanced Edit Mode, where you can edit it much more freely. The display area gives information on the transition process. An alternative is to use Convert Assistant, modify the document in a target application and then create a new PDF file.

Export

This offers a wide range of file types for exporting your current document. Almost all the targets have settings so you can influence the export.

Print

Send your current document to a printer, with the usual pre-printing choices. You can print to a physical printer or to a virtual printer, for instance to the Nuance PDF printer. Doing this is the only way to access Imposition settings, used to prepare a PDF for submission to a printing house. Use File > Options > General > Printer to set a preference: access the default printer or the last used printer.

E-mail

Attach your current PDF document (or selected pages from it) to a new main message in your default mail application. The file name becomes the subject. Modify that as desired, add recipients and optionally add a message before sending.

Fax via e-mail

Send your current document via e-mail to a fax machine. Provide recipient information and click Send. See Fax via e-mail.

Options

Open a tabbed dialog box with a wide range of preferences for program behavior, for example Comment Preferences, Form Preferences, General Preferences and Security Preferences.

Exit

Use this to close the program; if any documents have unsaved changes, you are invited to save them.
