Custom Setup

With both a Typical and Custom installation you can

• change the installation folder. The default installation folder is C:\Program Files\Nuance\Power PDF.

• decide to install or not the PDF Convert component.

• set Power PDF as your default PDF viewer.

• place a program icon on your desktop.

When you choose Custom Install many further options are available. You can enable or disable:

1. • integration of Nuance Power PDF in other programs. By default, all the programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer, Lotus Notes, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and WordPerfect Office)  offered by the InstallShield Wizard will be enabled, provided they are installed on your computer. Integrations for PDF Convert can be modified later under File > Options > General > Integrations.

   • features such as indexing, splitting document, document comparison, security and digital signatures, creating dynamic PDF forms, optimizing PDF documents, tagging PDF documents, reading out PDF documents and using Clip Art.

   • cloud connectors to Evernote and Dropbox.

   • Power PDF Advanced features: CaseMap support, Document Management Systems (DMS) support, Bates numbering, redaction, Watched Folders and the Scan Inbox.

   • individual languages  for the Text-to-Speech facility.

Note

Disabling Bates numbering in the Advanced custom installation does not disable headers and footers: these remain always available.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON INTEGRATIONS

Integrations of the PDF Convert component into Office applications and similar can be modified inside Power PDF, as described above. Integrations with cloud connectors and DMS cannot. They function as follows:

• In Power PDF Standard with a Typical setup the connectors for Dropbox and Evernote are installed and are always available in the Connectors ribbon. In Custom setup one or both can be disabled. DMS support is not offered in Power PDF Standard.

• In Power PDF Advanced, no connectors are installed, nether in a Typical nor a Custom Install. All are disabled by default in a Custom Install.  To install these integrations, you must perform a Custom setup, enter the Connectors group, and select the cloud connector and DMS integrations you need. To change these choices later, you must re-run the Installer (setup.exe), select Nuance Power PDF in the starting screen and click its Change button, then choose Custom install.

Start the installer and work through its general panels:

1. Start (install what, browse CD, Release Notes, visit Nuance web site)

2. Older version: keep or replace (appears only if an older version is detected)

3. Welcome screen (no interaction)

4. End-User License Agreement (EULA) - accept to proceed

5. Customer information (User Name, Organization and in some cases a serial number)

6. Set-Up Type: Typical or Custom - to proceed select Custom.

Panel 7: Starting choices

Main program files: must remain selected for first-time installation. Deselect for later changes.

Language support: choose from the available languages for the program interface and Help.

Advanced Document Processing: choose the features to be installed or dropped. See below.

Integrations: choose which Office and other applications should show a Nuance PDF ribbon. See below.

Connectors: Applies to Power PDF Advanced. To have integrations, you must make choices here. See below.

Voice Modules: Choose languages and voices for the Nuance RealSpeak installation.

Click the expand icon beside an item to open the list of choices.

Advanced Document Processing

The listed items here depend on whether you have Power PDF Standard or Power PDF Advanced. With the latter in a company environment, the offering may vary further, since System Administrators can decide which functionality to make available to employees.

Offered items might include: document comparison, optimizing, indexing and form creation (Form Typer), Fax via e-mail and (for Power PDF Advanced only) Bates numbering, CaseMap support, redaction and more.

Integration choices

Enable or disable the integration of Nuance Power PDF components PDF Create and PDF Convert in other programs:

1. • Microsoft Office (with sub-options)

   • Lotus Notes

   • Mozilla Firefox

   • Google Chrome

   • WordPerfect Office

Use the submenu at Microsoft Office  to enable or disable individual programs:

• Microsoft Word

• Microsoft Excel

• Microsoft Outlook

• Microsoft PowerPoint

• Windows Explorer

• Microsoft Internet Explorer

• Windows Desktop Search

Connectors

To get integration with Cloud connectors and DMS in Power PDF Advanced, you MUST enter this section and select the ones you need.

The listing offers Evernote, Dropbox (the Nuance Cloud Connector is handled on the opening installer screen) plus all the supported Document Management Systems (DMS).

Voice Modules

In a Typical Installation speech modules for English, French and German are installed without further interaction.

In a Custom installation these modules are offered by default, you may disable unwanted ones.

Further language modules are not installed, but are available for nearly all of the interface languages. They might be separately installed from the program media (i.e. DVD) or downloaded from the Nuance Power PDF web site.

Note

To change installed voice modules, connectors or any other custom installation choices, re-run the installer (setup.exe), choose the program and click Change. This starts the installer and a custom install can be selected.
