Adding process steps to a process

Documents are processed in several process steps within a process. Each process step describes certain operations (activities) that are to be performed on the documents. (See XBOUND activities: Overview.)

After you create a client and then create a process, choose from the activities that are displayed in the right pane of the Process Designer, which is a kind of toolbox for defining processes.

Note that you can add activities to the Process Designer, and then they are visible in the right pane.

If there are no activities at all available in the right pane, this is a sign that the database has not been properly initialized – see XBOUND Installation Guide.

Tip: If you have one or more intricately configured process steps to be used in multiple processes, there is no need to set them up repeatedly. You can save them as a template and then add them from the template. You can also export and import process step settings.

Use this procedure to add process steps to a process

  1. Using the XBOUND Management Center, open a console containing the Process Designer.

  2. Under Process Navigation, click the desired process.

  3. In the Process area, click Process Design:

  4. Drag the desired activity from the Activities tab, on the right, into the middle.

  5. Recommended: Initially, new process steps bear the names of the corresponding activities. It is often useful to provide shorter or more descriptive names:

    1. Right-click the process step and select Rename Process Step.

    2. Type the new name.

    3. Click OK.

  6. Configure the process step.

  7. Optional: Add a design comment.

Tip: You can change the appearance of the process diagram.

Typically the next step is specifying the process flow. If it is the first time you are adding a process step of a particular activity type, you must also assign the activity to the Activities Service before you run the process.
