Known issues

This topic contains information about potential issues that you may encounter while using Kofax Express 3.3.0. The workarounds are provided, as applicable.

Certain UI elements not localized in some languages

1676524: Some tooltips and menu items are not localized to the system language of the user and appear in English.

This issue appears in Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Czech, French, Italian, Japanese, and Portuguese (Brazilian).

Export fails when exporting images as TIFF files

1643347: When exporting 4000 or more images as TIFF files through the Multipage export connector, an "Export failed" error message appears. This is due to the TIFF library having an output limitation of 4 GB.

Export connectors using DevExpress fail to be installed

1638252: After installing an export connector that uses a DevExpress library version 20.2.5 or earlier, an error message appears when you start Kofax Express, and the installed export connector does not appear on the list of available export connectors.

Export connectors that use a DevExpress 20.2.6 library or newer are installed with no issues.

Workaround №1: Remove the DevExpress dependency from the problematic export connector and recompile it. This solution is highly recommended, Kofax guarantees that the export connector recompiled this way will interact properly with the future versions of Kofax Express.

Workaround №2: Recompile the problematic export connector with the version of DevExpress library that is included with the Kofax Express 3.3.0 installation. However, in this case, Kofax does not guarantee that the export connector recompiled this way will interact properly with the future versions of Kofax Express.

Canon DR-X10C: Incorrect Multifeed behavior

1635072: If you attempt to use Canon DR-X10C to scan with Multifeed enabled, instead of Multifeed Auto Resolve messages, the following error occurs:

The detected page length is too long.

Workaround: Specify the largest page size when scanning a batch with Multifeed enabled.

Inconsistent export behavior in multiuser environment

694028: If the "Create new batch after export" check box is selected on the Job Setup tab, it has no effect in a multiuser environment, where batches are typically exported automatically through the Export Service.

Too many OCR language selections may cause memory error

693386: When exporting a batch while OCR is enabled in the PDF Setup window, an "Insufficient memory" error may occur if too many items are selected on the OCR Languages list.

Workaround: On the OCR Languages list, select only the required languages.

Inaccurate OCR character recognition for Asian languages

690474: When OCR is used to detect values that consist of Asian language characters, some values are not accurate when:

  • An OCR recognition zone is used to populate index field values.

  • OCR is selected for documents exported in PDF or PDF/A format.

Workaround: Fast Mode must be turned off in both of the following locations:

  • In the Zonal Recognition Setup window

  • On the OCR tab of the PDF Setup window (Job Setup > PDF Setup > OCR)

Inaccurate file size for compressed black and white images

685880: On the Super Compression tab of the PDF Setup window, the file size listed for black and white compressed images is not accurate; the compressed image is actually smaller than the original image.

Workaround: Disregard the file size listed for compressed black and white images in the PDF Setup window, because the actual file size will be smaller than the original image. Also, note that file sizes for compressed color or grayscale images are listed accurately in the PDF Setup window.

Export error not logged

685633: When attempting to export to a location that has insufficient disk space, the following error appears but it is not included in the log file:

Export failed: there is not enough space on the disk.

Choice list not sorted

682812: When using the Choice List Setup window to define a list of numbered values, the sort order is not applied until the Indexing mode is active.

Auto resolve not working after multifeed or paper jam

673899: When clearing paper from a Kodak i5200V or i5600V scanner in response to an "Auto resolve multifeed or paper jam" message, the scan operation fails to resume automatically and the message remains on the screen indefinitely.

Workaround: Press the Start/Resume button on the scanner.

Cannot draw OCR zone over some bar codes

668194: You cannot draw an OCR zone over a bar code if the bar code value does not meet the minimum length defined on the Bar Code Setup tab.

Cannot draw OCR zone over some OCR or ICR characters

667818: You cannot draw an OCR zone over some OCR or ICR characters if the Print Type in the Zonal Recognition Setup window is set to CMC7 or E13B.

Cannot export batch with uncompressed Multipage TIFF files

667243: If you set the Multipage Export Setup window to export Uncompressed TIFF files, an error occurs during the export process.

Error -16: 9004 An error occurred while scanning; check scanner.
Error code = -16.
Export foreground: Error -16: Bad handle or unable to access
data with handle

Super Compression not working

661873: Although Super Compression is selected in the PDF Setup window, the exported documents are not compressed if the resolution is less than or equal to 96 DPI.

Application should not close during export process

661838: If you attempt to close Kofax Express while a batch export is in progress, a warning message appears. If you clear the message and do the same thing while the export is still processing, the application is closed without a warning.

Workaround: Restart the application and do not close it until the export process is finished successfully.

Canon DR-X10C: error caused by wrong paper size value

656080: If you attempt to use Canon DR-X10C to scan A4 paper (or larger) while the paper size value is configured for smaller paper, the image is not scanned and the following error occurs:

The detected page length is too long.

Workaround: Verify that the paper size selection corresponds to the actual paper to be scanned.

Unable to start program after installation to localized folder

655409: If you change the default destination folder to a folder with a localized name during the product installation, the following error occurs when you attempt to start Kofax Express:

5001 Kofax Express initialization failed: Cannot load DLL -- reason unknown.

For example, if you select a folder with a Chinese name while running the installer on an English operating system, this issue may occur.

Export fails for small image files with Compression enabled

652071: If you attempt to export small image files (20x20 pixels) in PDF format while Compression is enabled, the export process fails.

Workaround: Turn off Compression and retry the export process.

Memory allocation error with some Canon scanners

646663, 564145: This issue occurs with the following Canon scanner models: DR-7550C, DR-G1100, DR-G1130. When one of these scanners is used to scan, a system memory allocation error occurs.

Workaround: To prevent the error, do one of the following:

  • In Kofax Express, turn off the setting for Raw Images.

  • On the scanner, press the Menu button followed by the right or left arrow key. On the menu, set the "Long Document" value to "Off".

Export to local desktop fails with export service

27715: If you configure a job to export to the local desktop in a multiuser environment, the following error may appear if you are using the Export Service:

Please enter an image export folder.

This occurs because the Export Service runs under a local system account that may not have access to the desktop.

Arabic: file name format changed during export

27300: If your product is localized to Arabic, and you define a document file name consisting of two or more segments with alphanumeric characters during export setup, the actual file name may not match the defined format.

Workaround: To ensure consistent results, assign a delimiter to each segment in the document file name.

Export to ODBC-compliant database causes error

27015: The following error occurs if a user DSN is active when you use the Database export connector and the Export Service to export to an ODBC-compliant database.

Export failed: Unable to export using the export connector Database Export Connector in job <Job_Name>.

Workaround: Use a System DSN to create the ODBC source for the database, and use a Local System Account for the Export Service.

Demonstration mode limits scanning in multiuser environment

26709: When the Demonstration mode is active on a client workstation, scan operations are limited and the Scan controls may not work as expected.

Workaround: You can resolve the issue by activating a valid product license.

Export connector registration requires administrator rights

26513: If you attempt to register a Kofax Export Connector 8.x.0 for Microsoft SharePoint without administrator rights, an error occurs, even if you use an administrator account with UAC turned on.

Workaround: Turn off UAC and use "Run as administrator" to open a Command Prompt window to perform the registration for Kofax Export Connector 8.x.0 for Microsoft SharePoint.

Multiple export connector versions

26017: In a multiuser environment, if you install different versions of the same export connector on different Kofax Express client workstations, problems may occur when you attempt to save the configuration settings or to export.

Workaround: Install the same version of the used export connector on all Kofax Express client workstations.

Mapped drives not supported for Background Export Service

25493: If you run the Background Export Service, it cannot export to a path that includes a mapped drive.

Unable to add Kofax VRS Elite 5.1.2 or earlier to Kofax Express installation

25377: If you attempt to install Kofax VRS Elite Server or Client software (version 5.1.2 or earlier) on a computer where Kofax Express already exists, an error occurs.

Workaround: Avoid the error by installing Kofax VRS Elite Server or Client (version 5.1.2 or earlier) first, followed by Kofax Express.

Starting with Kofax VRS 5.2, the error does not occur.

Delayed server connection failure message

25087: It can take up to one minute for the "Delayed Server Connection Failure" message to appear.

Intermittent error after closing Auto Export

24748: If you close Auto Export before a batch is actually exported, one of the following errors occurs:

Export failed: Value cannot be null.

Export failed: Thread was being aborted.

Workaround: Open and close the batch so that it returns to the Export state.

Arabic: inconsistent number format

24742: If your product is localized to Arabic, the user interface may display numbers in two different formats.

Workaround: To ensure that number formats are displayed consistently, use Windows Control Panel to adjust the custom regional settings for Arabic. Change the number format by adjusting the "Use native digits" or "Digit substitution" setting (the setting name may vary, depending on your Windows operating system).

Language pack required to view some localized content

Some error text, shortcut keys, and standard Windows messages may appear in English, even if your Kofax Express installation is localized to another language.

Workaround: To ensure that the language is consistent throughout the product, download the .NET Framework 4.8 language pack from the Microsoft website.
