Changes in behavior
This section describes product behavior that is changed in Kofax Communications Manager 5.6.0.
Changes in KCM Designer
Updated structure of Corporate Design folder in KCM Designer
In KCM 5.6.0, the Corporate Design folder is restructured to support styling for multiple output formats. Content of the Corporate Design folder of projects created before this version is converted automatically.
For more information, see Work with Corporate Design in the Kofax Communications Manager Designer Help.
During upgrade to KCM 5.6.0, empty Document Type folders may be created for deleted style documents.
Composition review pane redesign
The Document Pack composition review panes have been redesigned to accommodate the new format-based channels. When checking the composition of a Document Pack Template, a channel can be selected. This displays the main format associated with each slot for that channel. The review pane for Document Templates shows a drop-down list for all output formats.
Design change for Document Template testing
A Document Template test form now contains a review pane, and it allows you to select any of the supported output formats.
Changes in Batch & Output Management
Channel distribution in Batch & Output Management
When Batch & Output Management distributes a communication through a channel that is not configured for the project, it does not fall back to the document package standard output but to the Word channel. If the Word channel is not configured, the package can only be distributed if all channels that Batch & Output Management uses are also configured in the project. The processing of older projects in Batch & Output Management is not changed.
PDF format as internal format in Batch & Output Management
The PDF format is now used as an internal format in Batch & Output Management. Now, documents of print communication are not converted into the XPS format for further processing. The XPSConversion process (CCM_XpsConversion) has been removed.
Empty communications in Batch & Output Management
Starting with this version of Kofax Communications Manager, empty communications for Document Pack Templates are not produced in cases when it is specified that no documents must be produced for certain channels. Previously, Batch & Output Management could produce empty communications in these scenarios.
Mapping for '*default' parameter changed
In Kofax Communications Manager 5.6.0, the *default value for the Channel parameter of IterateDocumentPack is now associated with the predefined *Word channel. This ensures that IterateDocumentPack will list the same output formats for *default as in previous KCM versions. The mapping of the *default value in the context of the electronic delivery path in Batch & Output Management has not been changed.
Handling of empty channel parameter value using IterateDocumentPack
Starting from Kofax Communications Manager 5.6.0, the channel parameter cannot be omitted or left empty when iterating over all channels. The new IterateDocumentPack value *all is introduced.
'Show stream' option removal
The "Show stream" option is no longer available for print stacks in the Stack View and Stack Edit View.

To place KCM Windows services together in the Windows Services control panel, all service names now start with <Product name abbreviation><Major Release Number>.<Minor Release Number>. For this release, all services start with KCM5.6.
Installation test project updated
The provided InstallationTest.mdk sample project now produces both Word and HTML output with branding.
