Adding a condition to a business rule

Configuring conditional business logic is an optional part of adding and configuring a business rule. (You can also add conditions to a business rule group.)

Note: Web Verification does not support conditional business logic.

  1. In the work area for business logic, under Business logic details, click Add condition () or Edit condition (). The Execution condition for business rule dialog is displayed.

  2. If it is a new condition, specify a descriptive name for the condition.

  3. Click Add to open the Add or edit comparison dialog.

  4. Select a field, property, operator, and value for the comparison.

    Possible operators:

    Less than (<)

Only available for numeric and date/time fields.

    Greater than (>)

Only available for numeric and date/time fields.

    Equal (=)

Checks whether two values are truly equal.

    Matches

Checks the value against a regular expression.

  5. Click OK.

  6. If needed, specify additional comparisons and link them together using the AND and OR and NOT operators until the desired purpose is achieved.

Tip: Multiple comparisons can be selected and linked together. Select multiple comparisons while pressing Shift or Ctrl. Then click or or .

  7. Recommended: Select a test document to check the results of the condition during processing of the individual comparisons. (ClosedInstructions.)

This allows you to test your conditional business logic on real documents at design time.

Select a test document to see how the condition would work on it:

    1. In the first box, select the root document. (The documents available in this box are not affected by the document type selected in the Document Type box.)

    2. In the second box, select the document to be tested. (The list shows all of the sub-documents of the selected root document that are of the type selected in the Document Type box.)

In this box you can also select the root document; consider the first box as a filter.

A red icon signifies a comparison that is false.

A green icon signifies a comparison that is true.

  8. Recommended: Test the business rule.

Tip: You can also add, edit, or delete conditions using the Manage conditions dialog. Access the dialog by selecting File > Conditions.
