Editing a business rule

  1. Using the XBOUND Management Center, open a console containing the Validation Designer. (For information about working with consoles, see XBOUND Help.)
  2. Under Process Navigation, select a process.
  3. Click the Check out button ().

  4. Select File > Open.

  5. In the Open business rule group or form dialog, select a business rule group to open and click OK.

  6. Under Document types, select an object with business rules. (ClosedDescription of symbols used in this pane.)

    Symbol

    Description

Document type (with and without business rules).

Field or field group (with and without business rules).

Table (with and without business rules).

Table column (with and without business rules).

  7. In the Business logic pane, select a rule.

  8. The details of the rule are displayed in the Business logic details pane. Adjust the settings as desired.

Tip: You can select multiple rules under Business logic and change their properties in a single step under Business logic details. If the properties are different, <multiple values> is displayed there. In any case you can enter a single value for all of the selected rules.

  9. If the business rule is included in at least two business rule groups, the number of business rule groups is added to the Rule activated option. By default, your changes will apply in all business rule groups that contain the selected business rule. To apply your changes only in the current business rule group, select Edit > Disconnect business rule.

Note: You cannot undo this action, nor can you reconnect the business rule so that it is used in multiple groups. When needed, disconnected business rules must be edited separately in each group.

  10. Optional: Add a condition to the business rule.

  11. When you are finished, click the Check in button.

When you configure a business rule, the system checks whether valid parameters, validated fields and trigger fields are configured. If not, an error message is displayed.

Note: Your business rules are not used in your process unless the process contains a Business Logic process step before the respective Verification or Web Verification step(s) in your process. (Alternatively, select Validate root document on start in the Verification step.)
