Troubleshooting: Keyboard shortcuts and access keys are not displayed

Microsoft Windows controls how keyboard shortcuts, access keys (also called accelerators – the underscore under one letter in a command) are displayed. By default, they are not displayed until you press Alt. To change this:

On Windows XP

1. Right-click your Desktop and select Properties.

2. On the Appearance tab, click Effects.

3. Deselect Hide underlined letters for keyboard navigation until I press the Alt key.

4. Click OK twice to close the two dialogs.

On newer operating systems such as Windows 7

1. Click the Windows Start button and type "Ease of Access".

2. Press Enter to open the Ease of Access Center.

3. Click Make the keyboard easier to use.

4. Select Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys.

5. Click OK.
