When defining fields, select No interpretation as a field format only when you want to manually type data for this field when it is filled in. This might be a good choice if, for example, a small character field is to contain handwritten characters with little or no possibility for validation and it is very important that the data not contain any errors, such fields for monetary amounts.
When you select No interpretation, FORMS does not try to interpret the field but, if the field is filled in, FORMS displays it during the verification process, and you must type the data yourself.
See also the Retype options.
You must specify the format and specification of the field even if you select No interpretation, because Transfer needs this information.
Do not select for a character field if you want to convert it to multipunch format.
