FORMS uses adjustment fields to identify and deskew forms and match them to the form definition. All the other fields on a form have a fixed position on the form relative to the adjustment fields. Therefore, adjustment fields are usually the first fields defined on every form. Exception: Define them last if flexible forms is to be used.
There are three kinds of adjustment fields (click one for instructions):
FORMS’ traditional adjustment fields are recommended for most form definitions.
Adjustment fields that are generated automatically in connection with flexible forms functionality.
Flexible line maps are suitable primarily when you are planning to define a number of very similar form definitions and run them together in the same job. This might be the case if you have the same form originating from different printing or imaging sources.
Note: Normally, fields cannot overlap, but it is OK if other field types overlap adjustment fields.
Each adjustment field has one of these settings:
Identification and adjustment (good for use with flexible forms). Use this when you know that no other form definitions included in the job hava a similar adjustment field. Adjustment fields defined with this setting are used to identify forms and at least three must be defined in every form definition.
Adjustment only (good for improving field capture).
