Specifying the criteria for a form complement

Use this procedure to specify when a form is to receive a form complement. Do not create a form complement for an indexed field, as more than one field could activate the function, which is not allowed.

  1. In the Field dialog, click the Advanced tab.

  2. In the Form complement group box, select If empty or If filled in if you want FORMS to prompt you to type the complement if the current field is empty or filled in. When you select both, FORMS always prompts you to type the complement.

Tip: You can adjust FORMS sensitivity to changes in image fields.

  3. Optional: Type the name of a table you created in the Table box. When the table contains the field value when checked in Interpret or Verify, FORMS prompts you to type the complement for the form. (This alternative is not available for image fields, which are not interpreted by FORMS.)

The Table and If empty/If filled in options work independently of each other. Thus, when you type the name of a table and select If empty, the form complement is triggered whenever the field is empty or contains a value present in the table.

When you select If filled in, the form complement is always triggered when the field is filled in, so typing a table name would have no effect.

  4. Click OK.
