Transfer single value (sum) is an option that you can select when defining a selection field or an indexed series of mark fields on a form definition. It affects data only as it is transferred.
In the Field dialog, click the Options tab.
Select Transfer single value (sum) if you want to transfer a single value for a selection field or for indexed mark fields.
Instead of each filled-in field having a separate corresponding value, the sum of all the filled-in fields (not including values automatically assigned to empty fields, if any) is used upon transfer. (In Verify, each field still has a separate value.)
If Value if no mark is selected with Transfer single value (sum), the value you specify for empty fields is transferred only if all of the fields in the series are empty. If any of the fields are filled in, the sum of all filled-in fields is transferred.
If Illegal value is selected with Transfer single value (sum), and the number of fill-in fields does not match what you specified, the illegal value becomes the single value that is transferred.
Illegal value takes precedence over Value if no mark.
When Transfer single value (sum) is selected, only the first field in the series (FieldName[1]) is included in the default transaction description. Other fields in the series are excluded from the transaction, so that normally the value occurs only once in the transfer file. If you include each indexed field in the transaction description, the same value is transferred for each field.
