Value if no mark is an option that you can select when defining mark fields or selection fields on a form definition. It affects data only as it is transferred.
In the Field dialog, click the Options tab.
Use Value if no mark to specify a value you want to represent an empty (not filled-in) field in the output file.
You can give the same Value if no mark to different fields.
When you select this option for a selection field or an indexed series of mark fields, then just before transfer each item that is not filled in receives the value you specify. You can achieve a similar effect by typing a default expression for the item in the transaction description. How?
Illegal value takes precedence over Value if no mark. If both are selected, and the number of fill-in fields does not match what you specified, FORMS assigns the Illegal value to every field in the series.
If Value if no mark is selected with Transfer single value (sum), then the value you specify for empty fields is transferred only if all of the fields in the series are empty.
