Identify rotated forms

This option in the Identification dialog allows identification of forms that were scanned backwards (that is, with the wrong edge of the form heading into the scanner).

Note: FORMS only checks for forms rotated 180 degrees, not 90 or 270 degrees.

Warning: When not to use this option

Unless the form definition has a recognition field, do not select this option for form definitions that have symmetrical adjustment fields. Even if only three adjustment fields are in correct positions when the form is rotated 180 degrees, it can be a problem because FORMS allows for lost adjustment fields.

To find out if FORMS had to rotate the image

To find out when FORMS uses Identify rotated forms to successfully identify a form, insert #AutoRot into the transaction description.

To handle forms that are both rotated and upside-down

If both Identify rotated forms and Identify upside-down forms are selected, FORMS first checks to see whether the form can be identified when it is rotated 180 degrees, then tries checking the other side (the back of the form), then tries rotating the other side 180 degrees. Not until all these maneuvers have been performed is the image finally given Unidentified status.

These two options can slow the identification process considerably, especially if many forms are scanned sideways or upside-down. Therefore, do not select these options unnecessarily but only if rotated or upside-down forms actually occur rather frequently.
