Viewing Document Images

Image storage and format

Scanned document images are stored in the format originally received from the scanning procedure. According to default settings, they are stored in the standard PROCESSIT database, but you can choose to store images in an external database.

The standard format for scanned images is .tiff. This format stores high resolution images and can contain more than one page.

Viewing document images in the browser

Most browsers do not support tiff-file rendering directly in the browser. Therefore, PROCESSIT converts images to .PNG files on the fly, when an image is displayed in the browser. This conversion means that you can only view the first page of a multi-page image file in the browser. To view a full .tiff file, you must download the image and open it in an image viewer that supports the .tiff format (or any other format that the original image is stored in). The original image can be downloaded in most task windows throughout the application.

To minimize data transfer and load-times, images that are larger than 100KB are resized prior to being sent to the user that views the image. The link to the original image still shows the image in original size.

In most windows, the document image is stretched to fit the container that holds the image. This container can be resized using the user interface panel sliders and accordion controls in each window.

In Task Details, you can click the invoice image to show the image in the original size in the browser. Once resized, you can click-and-drag to view the part of the image, that is of interest to you. To return to the standard stretched image, double-click on the image.

If you are using Internet Explorer, document images might seem grainy when they are not show in their original size. This is due to a non-optimal image-rendering for resized images found in Internet Explorer. If you have trouble viewing the image, we recommend that you use the click-feature to show the image in the original size, if you wish to inspect details.

Download Invoice Image

In most task windows you can download the original image by clicking the Image button. The first time you download a file-type, your browser will ask which application you want to use to open the file. Most image files can be viewed in a browser, and will usually open in a new browser tab.

Note that .tiff files are not usually supported by browsers, and you must select an image viewer to open the image.

Browser Image Options

You can use browser options to view image details. Right click the image to view the browser options. Usually, you will have the option to open the image in a new tab, or copy the image path, which you can then paste in the address bar of a new tab to open the image. Certain browsers also offer the option to inspect image details, for instance the Image info option in Mozilla Firefox.

If you have the permissions to do so, you can also utilize third-party browser add-ons to enhance the way images are shown in a browser.

External Archive

Document images are stored in the PROCESSIT database. Alternatively, you can enable use of an external image archive for document storage and reference. This is controlled by these configuration parameters:

Perceptive Content

To integrate with and configure an existing Perceptive Content installation as external image archive, please refer to this topic Perceptive Content as External Image Archive.
