Synchronizing audit messages to a separate database for archiving

If you are collecting audit trail data, the audit messages can additionally be saved in a separate audit trail database for archiving.

Important: Data is not automatically deleted from the audit trail database. From time to time, old data must be deleted manually.

Use this procedure to configure how audit messages are to be synchronized

  1. Set up the audit trail database using the procedure described in XBOUND Installation Guide, in the section called "Creating the databases." Use the database script located in the Audit subdirectory of the folder mentioned in the instructions. (The audit trail database has the same structure as the logging database.)

  2. Using the XBOUND Management Center, open a console containing the Data Manager.

  3. Under Audit, click the link that says Click here for reading or changing the settings.

  4. Specify the connection data for the audit trail database, and click Check connection to test the connection.

  5. Select Activate audit trail synchronization.

  6. Click Synchronize now and confirm with Yes. The audit messages from the logging database start synchronizing to the audit trail database. Wait until the action has finished.

This can take several minutes or even hours, depending on the number of audit messages and the database server's performance.

  7. Click OK.

Now any audit messages are automatically kept synchronized in the audit trail database. Exception: If the audit trail database goes offline, you should synchronize the audit messages again when the database is running again.

To discontinue synchronizing audit messages

To stop synchronizing audit messages, deselect Activate audit trail synchronization. If you activate this option again later, you should synchronize the audit messages again (as described above).
