LuraDocument PDF/A activity

This activity uses a LuraTech application to convert media to PDF/A formats. A number of functions are available, and these functions are applied to the complete root document in a sequence that you specify.

Note: This activity must be assigned to an Activities Service in order to run.

If for some reason you need to add this activity to the Process Designer, the file to add is xboundActLuraTech.dll.

The following settings are available when configuring a process step of this activity type.

General settings

For all functions, you can configure some or all of these settings:

Delete [original] after conversion

Deletes the originals after conversion.

Convert empty pages

Includes media even if their Empty flag is set. Otherwise these are not converted.

Additional [medium] information

Configure an additional value to be saved in the Info property in the converted file – and sometimes (optionally) in the original file, as well. If additional information is already present, the value you specify here is appended to the existing information, separated by a semicolon.

Set document type

Keeps the same document type as the original.

Convert by document type

Converts only documents of the selected document types.

Available conversion functions

Convert JPEG to PDF/A

Files are converted to highly compressed PDF/A files without text. (PDF files keep the same name.)

These settings are available (depending on which conversion option you select):

  • Title – The title to save as metadata in the PDF file.

  • Author – The author to save as metadata in the PDF file.

  • Subject – The subject to save as metadata in the PDF file.

  • Keywords – Keywords to save as metadata in the PDF file.

  • Fast web view – Allows the PDF file to be displayed more quickly on a website.

  • Version – The PDF/A standard to use.

  • Foreground segmentation – Color images are separated into a colored foreground, a colored background, and a bitonal part for the text structure and elements of engineering drawings. This results in a high compression ratio with very good readability.

Select the compression settings for the foreground. These settings are available:

  • Coder – Select None to exclude the image part, JPEG to embed the image part in JPEG format, or JPEG2000 to embed the image part in JPEG2000 format.

  • Sample – Resizes to a smaller version (subsampling).

  • Quality – Specify the quality of the segmentation: from 1 for minimum quality to 100 for maximum quality. Note that higher quality increases file size.

  • Size – Specify the size (in bytes) for the foreground image.

  • Background segmentation – Then select the compression settings for the background. The settings are the same as those described under Foreground segmentation.

  • Style – Specify the segmentation mode.

  • Enable layer switches

  • Add ABBYY XML as text

  • Coder – Specify the coder for bitonal images. Select FAX_G4 to embed the image part in Fax Group 4 format or JBIG2 to embed the image part in JBIG2 format.

  • Sensitivity – Specify the sensitivity for the text detection: from 0 for no text detection to 100 for maximum text detection.

Import button

Imports settings from an XML file that was previously created using Export.

Export button

Exports the settings to an XML file. Specify the file name and location. You can then import the XML file to get the same settings. See Exporting and importing process step settings.
