XBOUND activities: Overview

Documents are processed in several process steps within a process. Each process step describes certain operations that are to be performed on the documents. Each operation is executed by a particular XBOUND module or activity.

When adding a process step, you select one of the activities listed below. It is also possible to develop custom activities and add them in the Process Designer.

Before you can process documents, you must assign the activities to the Activities Service. Exception: The following manual activities do not need to be assigned:

Receive Email
Register Documents
Prepare Documents
Scan Documents
Verify Documents

Common activities
Delete Documents	Deletes documents from XBOUND when the processing is finished in XBOUND.
Register Documents	Creates documents in XBOUND before scanning and gathering information on these documents. This procedure is called registering.
Prepare Documents	Enables the XBOUND Preparation application to register the time spent preparing documents for processing.
Scan Documents	Imports data (documents) into XBOUND after they are scanned. Settings control when root documents and/or sub-documents for each page are created and whether the root documents must be registered.
Verify Documents	Adjusts some of the functionality that is available when editing documents in XBOUND Document Verifier.
Build Document Structure	Sets up a new sub-document level.
Split Documents	Splits root documents or extracts sub-documents of root documents according to criteria that you specify. See Splitting documents by document types.
Merge Documents	Merges root documents that were split by the Split Documents activity. In other words, Merge Documents restores the structure of the root document to the way it was before splitting.
SLA Reporting	Sets up service level agreement (SLA) reporting in a process. The SLAs can then be monitored using the SLA Report Manager.
Copy Fields	Copies fields to sub-documents.
Verification*	Adjusts some of the functionality that is available when editing documents in RCF Verification.
Web Verification*	Adjusts some of the functionality that is available when editing documents in RCF Web Verification.
Business Logic*	Applies the specified business logic to documents (in other words, it validates the documents).
Mobile Rescan*	This activity is used to rescan images using an Apple mobile device.
Imaging & Conversion activities
Extract Barcodes	Recognizes and extracts barcodes from a medium and adds them as MediumBarcode records to the media. See Extracting barcodes from documents.
Classify by Barcodes	Classifies media using the barcodes on these media.
Process Images	Post-processes images and, if you want, adds a barcode or text.
Convert Images	Converts media to other formats (such as converting JPEG files to PDFs).
Create Searchable PDF (ABBYY)	Converts all JPEG and TIFF media into multi-page PDF files, which can be exported as searchable PDF files later on.
Detect Empty Pages	Determines whether an image comes from a blank page.
Autorotate	Straightens skewed TIFF and JPEG images, and then rotates them into the correct reading direction.
Extract XML (ABBYY)	Extracts data from an image and saves the output in XML format.
LuraDocument PDF/A	Converts media to PDF/A formats.
Convert Office Documents	Converts media from Microsoft Office formats to TIFF or PDF format.
Export Documents activities
Adapter for File System	Exports all media in a root document and its sub-documents as files to a directory that you specify.
Adapter for File System (Structured)	Exports the root document in a structured way (the documents are exported as a sub-directory) to a folder that you specify.
Adapter for File System (XSLT)	Exports data from XBOUND into a file system. This export procedure can be flexibly configured using an XSLT script.
Adapter for IXOS Archive	Archives XBOUND documents to an IXOS Archive.
Adapter for PROCESS DIRECTOR*	Exports documents with images and fields to PROCESS DIRECTOR using mapping in SAP.
XBOUND Adapter for ELO Archive	This activity is not yet implemented.
ReadSoft Capture Components (RCC) activities
Interpretation**	Interprets (or extracts) data from your documents.
Classification**	Used for document classification, separation, and/or grouping in your XBOUND process.
Knowledge Processing**	Used for online "learning" of classification and/or interpretation.
Inspection**	Used for examining documents, rearranging or separating documents and sheets, and classifying or canceling documents.
Import solution**	Used for importing solutions from Capture Components Administration, and for customizing the connections between an imported solution and XBOUND document types. Note: This activity must be registered in XBOUND before use.
OEM Capture Components
ABBYY FlexiCapture Extraction*	Classifies and extracts documents with ABBYY FlexiCapture.
ABBYY FullPage Extraction*	Extracts documents with ABBYY FineReader.
RecoStar Full Page Extraction*	Extracts documents with RecoStar Full Page Reader.
RecoStar Professional Extraction*	Classifies and extracts documents with RecoStar Professional.
Export to PROCESS DIRECTOR for Accounts Payable*	Exports documents—primarily invoices—including images, fields and statistics, to ReadSoft's PROCESS DIRECTOR (previously called INVOICE COCKPIT) in the context of an integration with ReadSoft INVOICES. SAP mapping is used.
