Convert Office Documents activity

This activity converts Microsoft Office formats to TIFF or PDF format.

You can specify multiple conversions in a single process step. To specify a new format to convert to, click the empty row in the table and select a format in the Options column. (You must actively select a format, even if the desired format appears by default.)

Note: This activity must be assigned to an Activities Service in order to run.

If for some reason you need to add this activity to the Process Designer, the file to add is xboundActDocumentConversion.dll.

The following settings are available when configuring a process step of this activity type.

Input settings

Input document types

By default, all of the document types in the process are affected. All media with the supported formats (see Input media formats) will be converted.

To exclude certain document types, click the "All supported" link to open the Document types dialog.

That dialog lists all of the document types that were created in the current process. Select Convert only the selected document types. Then select the types whose media are to be converted.

Input media formats

By default, all of the Closedsupported media formats are converted.

  • DOC (application/msword)

  • DOCX (application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document)

  • XLS (application/vnd.ms-excel)

  • XLSX (application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet)

  • PPT (application/vnd.ms-powerpoint)

  • PPTX (application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.presentationml.presentation)

  • PPSX (application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.presentationml.slideshow)

  • HTML (message/rfc822)

Conversion settings

Options

The format to convert to. The following formats are supported: 

  • PDF single page – Each document is converted to multiple one-page PDF 1.4 files (one file per source document page).

  • PDF multi page – Each document is converted to a multi-page PDF 1.4 file.

  • TIFF single page – Each document is converted to multiple one-page TIFF files (one file per source document page).

  • TIFF multi page – Each document is converted to a multi-page TIFF file.

Settings

Lists the specific settings for the format. Click in the Parameter set column to adjust those in a separate dialog.

Parameter set

Opens the Conversion settings dialog, where you can specify the format in more detail.

Delete

Deletes the format on that line. Media will not be converted to that format.

XBOUND process options

Delete source media

Deletes the originals after conversion.

Continue processing on error

Prevents the program from stopping when there is a conversion error. The ConvertError status field in the current document and in the root document is set to true so that the document can be rerouted due to the error, for example using a conditional process rule.

The medium that was not converted gets its ConversionError field set to true, and the technical error message (ConversionErrorMessage) is added as an additional field.
