Changes in behavior
This topic describes behavior in Tungsten Transact 2025.2 that has changed from previous releases.
RecoStar functionality removal and automatic mapping
With this release, the RecoStar engine is no longer included in the installation. During an upgrade, the installer detects dependencies on RecoStar and displays warnings to users about affected batch classes and RSP files.
Existing RecoStar-based batch classes are expected to run using OmniPage and other resources after the removal of RecoStar. However, variations in output may occur due to differences in underlying technology. We recommend thoroughly testing critical batch classes after the upgrade.
Changes in plugin behavior
Several plugins exhibit modified behavior due to RecoStar removal:
RECOSTAR_EXTRACTION (deprecated) plugin functionality for RSP files is now mapped to OmniPage processing. While RSP files remain usable with limited functionality, transition to OMNIPAGE_EXTRACTION using the OmniPage Form Template Editor is recommended for fixed-form extraction tasks.
RecoStar Design Studio is deprecated. Use the OmniPage Form Template Editor for fixed-form extraction.
The KEY_VALUE_EXTRACTION plugin uses OmniPage for ICR and OMR operations when processing image snippets. Machine print extraction relies on HOCR output from the configured HOCR plugin.
Both ADVANCED_BARCODE_READER and ADVANCED_BARCODE_EXTRACTION plugins now utilize OmniPage or Zxing engines when RecoStar is selected as the barcode engine.
User interface changes
The Home page interface no longer includes the search bar. This change streamlines the user interface without impacting core functionality.
RecoStar-related options in the user interface are marked with "(Deprecated)" and display warning messages when selected. These options remain selectable to maintain compatibility with existing configurations but automatically utilize alternative processing engines at runtime.
Export module changes
The MULTI_PAGE_EXPORT plugin is now the default export plugin for new batch classes, replacing CREATEMULTIPAGE_FILES. Existing batch classes using CREATEMULTIPAGE_FILES continue to function with their RecoStar settings automatically mapped to OmniPage processing.
The System Default option in MULTI_PAGE_EXPORT executes with the OmniPage engine using corresponding settings, providing improved PDF output quality and consistency.
