Task 5: Work with HTML output
Communications Manager provides the ability to produce business communications in both print and electronic output formats. Currently, Communications Manager supports Microsoft Word and PDF as the print format and HTML, and XML as the electronic formats. All documents created with Communications Manager can be configured to any supported output format or a combination of formats, provided that required channels are defined at the project level.
Regardless of the output format, produced documents are based on the same content definitions, such as Content Wizards and Text Blocks with the following exceptions.
-
Rich Text Blocks are only available in print output, and they are ignored for electronic output.
-
Style documents must be defined separately for print and electronic output formats. For print output, use Word Page Style documents and Word Style Sheet documents to define headers, footers, and styles. For electronic output, use HTML Page Template documents and HTML Style Sheet documents.
For more information about output formats, see the Tungsten Communications Manager Template Scripting Language Developer's Guide.
XML output format
XML output format, also known as DocXML and AiaDocXML, is an intermediate format intended for custom post-processing only. Documents in this format cannot be used as final output.
