What's new

This section lists features that are new in Kofax Communications Manager 5.5.0.

Simplified installation and configuration process

New installation and configuration tools for on-premise deployment do not require PowerShell, because they are implemented as command-line utilities. These new tools simplify the installation process and provide flexible configuration options. For example, users can run the all-in-one installation that automatically deploys a KCM instance and a Contract Manager, with all components configured completely, so that no further configuration is required. This installation tool also connects the KCM instance to its database and registers it on the Contract Manager.

With the new installation tools, it is also possible to:

  • Add a KCM instance or a Contract Manager to the installation.
  • Configure and deploy KCM settings.
  • Export or import settings of Contract Manager and KCM instances.
  • Register or unregister a KCM instance on the Contract Manager.

New tools also support upgrade and uninstallation for Contract Manager and KCM instances.

Also, there are new tools for Batch & Output Management supporting its installation, configuration, uninstallation, and upgrade. See the Kofax Communications Manager Installation Guide for more information.

Increased number of properties in a Document Template

Document Templates now support more than ten properties, which can be used, for example, to drive document-specific post-processing. All properties defined for Document Templates are visible in the Document Template Editor in KCM Designer.

Spell-checker in UI

Spell-checker is now provided for the Composer UI and for the Text Block Editor in KCM Designer for Web. It enhances user experience and helps to ensure document quality for delivering error-free communications.

PDF preview for Rich Text Blocks

With KCM Designer, users can preview Rich Text Blocks as PDF documents: when a Rich Text Block is saved, KCM automatically generates a PDF preview for it.

However, after upgrading to KCM 5.5 or importing a project that had been exported by a previous version of KCM, the older Rich Text Blocks will not have the automatically generated PDF previews. In this case, use the CreateRichTextBlockPreviews.exe tool to generate PDF previews whenever needed.

See the Kofax Communications Manager Repository Administrator's Guide for more information.

Version comments displayed in History dialog

The History dialog for an object in KCM Designer now shows the version comments. This information can be helpful when following an audit trail or correcting errors in the objects.

User interface and usability improvements

Starting with KCM 5.5.0, the KCM Designer user interface is redesigned to make your work easier and more effective. With the updated interface, KCM Designer has an improved look and feel that is aligned with the style of the other Kofax Intelligent Automation platform products.

Support for Java 11

Java 11 is now supported.

Support for new databases

Azure SQL and Oracle 19c are now supported for KCM Repository database (for KCM instances only).
