Creating a language specification

A language specification tells the system what language it can expect to extract. They include settings on which dictionary and characters are used for that language.

  1. Click the Configuration tab.

  2. Select File > New specification > Language.

  3. Type a name for the specification (max. 80 characters) and press Enter.

  4. In the right pane, double-click the new language specification.

  5. In the Identity settings, type a name and description.

  6. In the Dictionary settings, select the dictionary that is most likely to contain words that will be extracted from the documents that use this language specification. Selecting the correct dictionary improves extraction. (You cannot edit the dictionary; it is simply a tool that assists extraction.)

Note: The dictionary file must use UTF-8 encoding.

  7. In the Characters settings, specify which character sets to use.

Type either a range (a-d) or single characters (abcd).

To include a range and individual characters, separate the two types with a semicolon; for example, A-Z;ÅÄÖ.

To include hyphens, semicolons, and backslashes in the specified characters, type a backslash (\) before the character. For example, to include a hyphen, type "\- ". To include a backslash, type "\\".

There are several ways to include the same characters. For example, here are four ways to include the numbers zero to nine:

    • 0-9

    • 0-3;4-7;8-9

    • 012;3-8;9

    • 0123456789

The System culture setting affects date fields based on this language (that is, date fields with this new language selected as Locale for Extraction and Display format in the Format settings). Therefore, as System culture specify the language/culture that you expect the date format to be consistent with when this language is selected.

Tip: To find out which countries use the language specification, see the Used by settings.
