Defining a barcode field

To define a barcode field.

  1. Find out what type of barcode appears on your forms. FORMS can help you check the barcode type. You can also look at examples of the supported barcode types.

  2. Important: If there is a barcode on the form you are defining (normally a blank form is used to set up the form definition), then you must erase the barcode:

    1. Using your mouse, draw a frame around the barcode. (Instructions.)

    2. Ensure that nothing inside the frame will appear on future forms. Otherwise, press Delete or F9 and start again. There is no "undo" command after the next step!

    3. Select Edit ð Field ð Erase. The barcode disappears, but the frame you drew remains on the screen.

  3. If you just erased a barcode, you can use the frame you drew as the field area. Otherwise, specify the field area.

  4. Press F5 to open the Field dialog.

  5. On the Standard tab, select Barcode as the field type.

  6. Type a field name.

  7. Specify the barcode type and format.

  8. Specify a field complement and/or form complement, if applicable.

  9. Optional: Specify field help.

  10. Click OK.
