This topic guides you when you are defining mark fields and selection fields on a form definition.
When you select Mark or Selection as your field type, the options in the Format box change.
If you define a single mark field by itself, there is nothing to select from the Format group box except the Value.
In the Value box, type the actual output value that you want a marked (filled-in) box to generate. If you wish, you can give the same output value to different mark fields, but it is easier to read the data after transfer if you indicate different values for different mark fields.
For selection fields and mark fields in a series, indicate the value in one of two ways:
Literally, separated by commas. For example, 10,4,8 indicates that for a series of 3 mark fields, if the first box is filled in, 10 is to be generated; if the second box is filled in, 4 is to be generated; and, if the third box is filled in, 8 is to be generated.
With the value for the first field, followed by a plus sign or minus sign. For example, 10+ indicates that for a series of mark fields, if the first box is filled in, 10 is to be generated, and if the second box is filled in, 11 is to be generated, and so on. If you use the minus sign, the values count down rather than up.
Do not use this simplified format if the output data is to be converted to, for example, multipunch format.
It is also possible to combine both above formats or specify negative numbers. Some examples of valid mark field values are:
10,20+ 2- 2+ -5+ -3- 4,6,8,10
Specify that at least one field or max. one field is to be filled in
For more information and choices on how FORMS handles and assigns values to selection fields and series of mark fields, see Options for mark fields and selection fields.
It is also possible to convert selection fields and mark fields to multipunch format.
