Setting the record size

In a Transfer job description, you can choose whether the records in your transaction are to have a fixed length or variable lengths.

By default, the records have variable lengths. Each record has its own length when FORMS transfers it, depending on the amount of data obtained from the material, rather than a fixed length.

However, you may want a particular fixed record size regardless of the layout of the transaction description associated with the individual forms included in the job description. If you specify a fixed record size, FORMS pads the records with spaces to the size you specify.

  1. On the Transfer tab, click Options. The Transfer job options dialog is displayed.

  2. Select Fixed size.

  3. Type the desired size in the box. The fixed size you specify must be at least the size of the largest record in the job. Otherwise, FORMS truncates some records.

    If you specify zero (0) as the fixed size, FORMS sets the size automatically to the size of the largest record in each transaction.

  4. Close the Transfer job options dialog and the Transfer tab.
