Home > Launchpad > Launchpad overview
The OmniPage Launchpad lets you quickly set up and run document conversion tasks. The Launchpad is started from the Windows Start Menu, by choosing it in the Kofax OmniPage Ultimate sub-menu.
In Windows 8 use the program tile on the Windows Start Screen. If removed, right-click in an empty space and choose ‘All apps’.
The Launchpad window has a fixed size, but can be moved by dragging its title bar. On the left is the Build panel, with three columns, each containing four tiles. Quick OCR is achieved by selecting three tiles, one from each column. This combination becomes a Go-flow, which is displayed on the right. There you find up to five Go-flow slots that are empty when the program is first run. Fill them by choosing tiles on the left. The diagram below shows four filled slots and one empty slot.
Selected tiles have a gold border; in this diagram these are: book layout (two pages per scan), save to the ePub file type and send the results in mail. These three tiles are displayed as the current Go-flow, in the fourth slot. The selected Go-flow also has a gold border and its (editable) description appears with gold lettering: ‘Book to ePub save in Mail’. See descriptions of the numbered elements below.
The Build panel column ‘Convert’ – choose a page type that best describes the layout of the input document.
The Build panel column ‘To’ – choose the output file type you desire.
The Build panel column ‘Save’ – choose a destination for the recognition results.

The Settings bar – individual buttons are documented in a separate topic.
Your Go-flow consists of three tiles, defining the layout of the input document, the output file type and the destination. It also contains settings that can be modified in the Settings bar.

Click this to close Launchpad; it cannot be minimized
Further Help topics provide more guidance:
Tells how to build Go-flows, and how to customise the tiles shown in the Build panel. Only four tiles can appear per column, but clicking ‘More’ shows all available tiles, allowing you to place your four ‘favorites’ for each column.
Tells how to store Go-flows and how to manage them once all slots are full.
Tells how to modify settings for the current Go-flow, detailing the function of each button.
Tells how to run Go-flows. When started, you pass through at least two more steps:
Define the input location or source.
Optional interactive steps – perform zoning and/or proofing.
Define the output folder (and file name if required).
The two interactive steps can be requested or dismissed using the Settings bar.
A Go-flow is in fact a simplified workflow,
driven through the highly intuitive Launchpad interface. However, there
is no connection between the Workflows in OmniPage Ultimate and the Go-flows
in the Launchpad. The Go-flows always remain in the Launchpad and cannot
be transferred. If you need more control over processing, involving choices
not offered by the Launchpad, you should use Workflows in OmniPage Ultimate
or DocuDirect jobs
Launchpad offers an efficient way to perform basic recognition tasks, particularly ones you need to repeat regularly. It is not designed to incorporate all the advanced features of OmniPage Ultimate. Prefer that program for the following requirements:
Access to different views: Classic view, Flexible view, Quick Convert view or customized views.
Ability to set up Workflows and Jobs with full control over all processing steps and settings.
Wider choice of input document descriptions, including ‘Automatic’, 'Custom' and templates.
Ability to process only selected pages from documents.
Ability to preview and rotate incoming pages (Launchpad always auto-rotates pages).
Ability to perform image enhancement with the SET tools.
Full control over zoning – multiple zones with defined types and properties.
Access to the full range of over 120 recognition languages.
Access to user and professional dictionaries, training and other OCR-related settings.
Ability to undo and redo a wide range of actions
Use of a powerful Text Editor to view and modify recognized texts.
Ability to have recognized text read aloud or saved to audio files.
Recognized documents can be sent directly to a printer.
Save resulting documents to multiple saving destinations.
Ability to save parts of pages to both image and editable file types.
Access to a wider range of saving file types (e.g. PDF Image-only and other image file types)
Save work in progress to an OmniPage Document (OPD) for archiving or to allow work to be resumed later.
