In production, scanner performance is roughly between 50% and 70% of the theoretical scanner speed listed for your scanner in its product documentation. You can test your scanner’s performance with FORMS as follows:
Create a Scan job description, choosing a typical form definition.
Choose Store forms to files without identification as the storage method.
Make sure forms will be saved to a local disk. (Click Directories to check or change the setting.)
Run the Scan job. The speed should be very similar to the theoretical speed listed for your scanner.
You could also compare this test with the results of Kofax’s VCDEMO or Pixel’s MVIEW/PixView test programs. FORMS’ Scan module should scan about the same speed as those test programs, given the same setup.
In the Scan job description, change the storage method to Store forms in database.
Run the Scan job again. Now scanning may be slower than the theoretical speed listed for your scanner. How much slower depends on many factors, such as how complicated the form definition is, how many fields there are and what type they are, and the level of traffic on the network (if you are running FORMS in a network) in which the data is stored.
Is your scanner reading forms as fast as it should? If not, see suggestions for improving performance.
