Troubleshooting License Activation Errors in Nuance Form Template Editor

Steps to resolve Error 48 when activating a license for the Nuance Form Template Editor.

This issue applies to all versions of Tungsten Transact.

When trying to activate a license for the Nuance Form Template Editor, you may receive the following error:


Error 48: Activate License: The server couldn't activate license 'XXXXX-XXX-XXXX-XXXX-XX'.
            

License activation may fail if the licensing database is corrupted or due to invalid licensing server IP address information. The URL used to download and activate licenses for the Nuance Form Template Editor has changed.

  1. Reset the licensing database.

    Follow these steps to reset the licensing database:

    1. Close the Nuance licensing tool.
    2. Stop the Nuance Licensing Service.

      To stop the Nuance Licensing Service:

      • Open the Windows Services console.

      • Right-click the Nuance Licensing Service.

      • Click Stop.

    3. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Nuance\License Manager
    4. Rename the License Manager folder to License Manager-Old.
    5. Start the Nuance Licensing Service.

      To start the Nuance Licensing Service:

      • Open the Windows Services console.

      • Right-click the Nuance Licensing Service.

      • Click Start.

    6. Try to download and activate the licenses again.
    If you are still experiencing issues activating your licenses, refer to one of the other solutions provided.
  2. Modify the system hosts file and use the Nuance Licensing Tool.

    Perform the following steps:

    1. Open the system hosts file in a text editor with elevated permissions.

      The hosts file is located at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.

    2. Add the following line to the end of the file:
      63.110.241.55 licenses.nuance.com
    3. Save the hosts file.
    4. Download and activate your licenses as usual using the Nuance Licensing Tool.
    If you are still experiencing issues activating your licenses, refer to one of the other solutions provided.
  3. Perform manual activation through the new website.

    Follow these steps to perform manual activation:

    1. Go to the OmniPage Capture SDK license download page.
    2. Enter your license keys and click Download licenses.
    3. When the keys are found, click Download licenses zipped and save the ZIP file to your computer.
    4. Move the downloaded ZIP file to the target runtime computer where the Nuance Licensing Tool is installed.
    5. Run the Nuance Licensing Tool on the target computer.

      Navigate to Start > All Programs > Nuance > Licensing > Nuance Central Licensing Tool.

    6. Import the zipped license file using the File > Load menu command.
    7. Prepare for manual activation.

      Use the File > Prepare for Manual Activation menu command to save your license pack.

      If the license still appears (in older versions), use Functions > Remove to remove it.
    8. Move your saved file to a computer with Internet access.
    9. Go to the OmniPage Capture SDK license activation page and follow the instructions provided.
    10. Download and save the received LCXZ (or LCXP) file to portable media and move it to the target computer.
    11. Run the Nuance Licensing Tool on the target computer again.
    12. Import the LCXZ (or LCXP) license file using the File > Load menu command.
    13. Verify that your license appears in the Licenses window of the Nuance Licensing Tool and that the activation date is filled in.
