Migrating databases
When you start the Database Utility manually, you can use it to migrate a database from one type to another. For example, changing from Microsoft SQL Server to Oracle RAC.
When switching databases, note the following:
-
You must be logged on to Windows with administrative privileges.
-
If you select SQL Server, Oracle, or Oracle RAC, you must have already installed your own licensed version of the selected database, and you must have created a new database and have the name handy. The new database cannot contain any data.
-
If you have deployed at least one Local Client, you cannot use the Database Utility to migrate to another database. Contact Kofax Technical Support for assistance.
-
Stop Kofax Front Office Server on the local host and, if you have a cluster installation, all other hosts in the cluster.
Follow these steps to migrate the database:
- From the bin folder where Kofax Front Office Server is installed, run Kofax.KFS.Util.DatabaseMigrationUtility.exe.
-
If prompted, log on with your
Kofax Capture
user name and password. You must have the
Allow admin utility usage

- Click the Source tab. Verify that the fields display information about your current Kofax Front Office Server database.
- Click the Target tab.
-
Under
Target Database, select the type of database
to which you are upgrading or migrating.
The fields in the window show the connection and authentication information needed for the type of database.
