Start from Power PDF

The converter component can be started from Power PDF in the Advanced Processing ribbon. With a direct conversion the conversion acts on the PDF document currently open in the program. When the Convert Assistant is called, other files can be added. It is possible to convert just page areas. Conversion can also be started from the File menu using Save As.

Use Convert Assistant for more control over the conversion. This lets you convert multiple files, convert only selected pages, change more settings before conversion and also select mode and target combinations, such as Legal conversion mode, that are not offered in the direct conversion.

Start Convert Assistant to convert the active document

Convert Assistant icon These operations always concern only the active PDF document.

  1. Open a document to be converted in Power PDF.
  2. Click Convert Assistant at Advanced Processing > Batch.

    The Convert Pages dialog box appears.

  3. Define which pages to convert: all, selected, current or a page range, and then click OK.

    The selection appears in the Preview window.

  4. Add documents as desired, specify page ranges as necessary, specify processing mode, target and further settings.
  5. Convert icon Start conversion with the Convert All or Convert Selected tool (it appears in black until a selection is made).

Perform a direct conversion

  1. Open a document to be converted in Power PDF.
  2. Go to Home > Convert and do any of the following.
    1. Select a target command directly accessible on the ribbon:

    • Word icon Converts to Word

    • Excel icon Converts to Excel

    • PowerPoint icon Converts to PowerPoint

    1. Other icon Select the Other tool and open its drop-down list for the following:

    • XPS document: convert a PDF file to an XPS document.

    • Word as Form: The relevant processing options panel from Convert Assistant is available.

    • WordPerfect Document: The relevant processing options panel from Convert Assistant is available.

    • MRC PDF: Generate a new PDF from the current one. The program examines the input PDF to determine which pages have a usable text layer. These pages are passed unchanged to the new PDF. MRC compression is applied only to image-only pages that are detected. The topic Image Compression tells you in which cases MRC compression is likely to be effective. Settings let you select a compression/quality level.

    • Searchable PDF: Generate a new PDF from the current one. The program examines the input PDF to determine which pages have a usable text layer. These pages are passed unchanged to the new PDF. OCR is run on image-only pages that are detected to create a text layer for those pages. Settings let you select an OCR language and more.

    The Convert Pages dialog box appears.

  3. Set page range and other settings. See Convert Pages for details.
  4. Click OK.

    The Save As dialog appears.

  5. Provide a suitable file name and location for the output, then click Save.

Convert a page area

  1. Convert Area icon Click the Export Area tool at Advanced Processing > Export.

    This provides a selection cursor after a confirmation message.

  2. Draw a rectangle over the preferred page area.

    The Save As dialog appears.

  3. Browse to a suitable location, and then type a file name in the File name box.
  4. Select an output file format in the Save as type box.
  5. Optionally, click Save to DMS and select a DMS destination from its drop-down list.
  6. Click Save.

The converted file opens in its default application.

Start Convert Assistant from the File menu

The File menu in Power PDF allows for a selection of direct conversions for the whole current PDF document.

  1. Open a document to be converted in Power PDF.
  2. Select Save As in the File menu, then select Browse.

    The Save As dialog appears.

  3. Under Save as type select a non-PDF file type and a processing mode (such as Word Document or Word Form).
    1. Click Settings for those relevant to the chosen target, make changes as desired.
  4. Browse to a suitable location, and then type a file name in the File name box.
  5. Click Save.
